Audiences were left buzzing by the sight of action movie superstar Jason Statham protecting the hive in this year’s The Beekeeper. While a sequel has yet to get the greenlight, director David Ayer is eager to return for more, and wants to further explore the “mythology of the beekeepers,” the clandestine organization that The Stath’s Adam Clay used to be a part of, with the filmmaker intentionally leaving the door ajar for The Beekeeper 2.
Discussing the prospect of The Beekeeper 2 with Yahoo back in January, Ayer teased what we can expect from a sequel. Which surely must be titled The Beekeeper: 2 Bee or Not 2 Bee or what are we even doing here?
Ayer is confident that there will be more from The Beekeeper, with the filmmaker listing it as one of the projects he has in the pipeline alongside next year’s Levon’s Trade, which will also be led by Jason Statham.
The Beekeeper Has Been a Huge Hit for Jason Statham & David Ayer

The Beekeeperfinds Statham on solid ground as the mysterious Adam Clay. After losing a dear friend to a scam, Clay leaves his quiet beekeeping ways behind as he enacts a brutal campaign for vengeance. Of course, no mere lowly beekeeper, he is soon revealed to be a former operative of a powerful, secret organization known as “Beekeepers.” Directed by David Ayer from a script written by Kurt Wimmer, The Beekeeper stars Jason Statham alongside Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, with Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons.
The movie quickly became one of the biggest surprise hits of the year. The action outing grossed $152.7 million at the worldwide box office, making it one of The Stath’s biggest solo hits to date. As well as bringing in the honey at the box office, The Beekeeper is also now one of Statham’s biggest solo hits critically, currently standing at 71% from critics and 92% (aka “Verified Hot”) from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
While a Beekeeper sequel has yet to be officially greenlit, it is surely just a matter of time before Adam Clay returns to once again protect the hive. While we await that glorious news, Statham is already set to reunite with director David Ayer for Levon’s Trade, which follows The Stath as a former black-ops agent who is called back into action after his boss’s teenage daughter vanishes.
The Jason Statham action film The Beekeeper is generating plenty of sequel buzz, but will The Beekeeper 2 ever actually happen? Debuting in January 2024, the sleeper action hit stars Statham as a former member of a mysterious group called the Beekeepers who goes on a brutal mission of revenge to take down a powerful scammer who robs regular people of their money. Though the movie was released with little fanfare, the simple but effective action flick pushed all the right buttons and became the first surprise smash of 2024.
Unlike many of its action contemporaries who lean heavily on schlock, The Beekeeper scored high marks with critics who praised its simplicity, briskness, and Statham’s easy performance (via Rotten Tomatoes). More important than its critical success, The Beekeeper has crossed major box-office milestones in the early weeks of 2024, guaranteeing its spot as a bona fide blockbuster in the making. This kind of success is a surefire sign that a sequel is in the works, and The Beekeeper 2 seems inevitable.
