It was the kind of moment that stops everyone in their tracks—the most Christmas moment in The Voice history. Gwen Stefani stepped onstage with a surprise no one saw coming, launching into “The Christmas Song” with a smooth, vintage sound that felt straight out of a classic holiday movie. People know her for pop, rock, even country, but this? This was something else. Her voice wrapped around the song like warm cocoa on a cold night—rich, classy, and timeless.

You won't believe Gwen Stefani's classic voice on epic collab with John Legend, Blake Shelton and Camila Cabello on “The Christmas Song” - The Music Man

Gwen Stefani had a big surprise up her sleeve when she sang “The Christmas Song” on The Voice! We all know Stefani can tackle rock, pop, and country, but hearing her sing over a jazzy arrangement of the timeless Christmas tune was a real revelation. She has such an incredibly classy and classic voice that goes so well with vintage tunes. Clearly, we need to hear more of this side of Stefani!

The Voice' Coaches Sing Nat King Cole's Christmas Classic Like You've Never Heard It Before - Parade

Stefani was joined by plenty of vocal firepower on the tune, as John Legend, Blake Shelton, and Camila Cabello all took turns singing verses on the Nat King Cole classic during The Voice live finale. Legend impressed big time with his opening verse, and I’m sure The Music Man readers can agree that this man’s voice can take you places! Cabello also showed plenty of class with a delicate second verse, while Shelton took the fourth verse with his warm baritone.

The awesome foursome performed their take on “The Christmas Song” on The Voice on December 13, 2022. Fans gave big props for the performance, adding comments such as “Gwen has that classic voice that a lot of people don’t appreciate. I think she and John have the classic voices that fit this particular song type, however they all sounded great” and “Not only was this holiday classic sung really well, especially by John Legend, but the musicians played it to perfection just like the original.”

Stefani has a soft spot for Christmas songs, as she has recorded several popular festive tunes over the past decade. One of her most popular Christmas recordings is when she sang the Wham! tune “Last Christmas” for her Live at the Orange Grove Christmas series. Stefani’s band gave the tune a classic pop/rock makeover, while she gave the vocals a bit of vintage style.

Now, serious Stefani fans among The Music Man readership probably won’t be surprised to hear her vintage vocal styling, as of course, in 2017 she recorded her first full-length Christmas studio album You Make It Feel Like Christmas. However, more casual fans of her work might not be too familiar with her Christmas repertoire. This is because the album went somewhat under the radar compared to her chart-topping pop albums and peaked at 16 on the US Billboard 100. Stefani was inspired to record her first full-length Christmas album after going on a nature walk near her then-boyfriend Blake Shelton’s Oklahoma ranch house.

Twelve years ago, when someone tried to argue that Taylor Swift “isn’t country,” this was the video that shut everyone up. Taylor stepped onto the CMA Awards stage and didn’t just sing—she stunned the entire room into silence. Surrounded by Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Sam Bush, Edgar Meyer, and Eric Darken, she proved in one moment that her roots run straight through Nashville. There was no glitter, no big lights, no theatrics. Just Taylor sitting in a small circle of country legends, taking her hit song “Red” and peeling it back to where it all began. Vince opened with a simple, reverent guitar line. Taylor breathed out the first few aching lyrics. Then Krauss slid in with harmonies so soft and warm they felt like smoke drifting through a quiet room. The mandolin danced around her voice, the bass held everything steady, and together they created a moment that felt almost holy.
