Someone better call the police because there’s been a robbery at this Kelly Clarkson show! That’s right, these two singing police officers absolutely ‘stole’ the show at Kelly Clarkson’s concert at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas Capitol Police Officers LaMont Jackson and Michael Pagel sang Ben E. King’s classic “Stand By Me” onstage at the show, with the whole crowd, including Clarkson, singing along and just loving the feel-good vibe of the moment.
Jackson and Pagel previously went viral for their own take on Carpool Karaoke in their squad car, and Clarkson loved their voices so much she just had to invite them onstage when she swung by Kansas City. The Musical Devotees was really impressed as not only can the two officers sing, they can really work a crowd as well. Jackson in particular really gave the audience a show, walking around to every corner of the stage and then leading the crowd in a singalong and getting them to wave their arms to the beat.
KCCI NewsChannel 8 uploaded the officers’ appearance at Clarkson’s show to YouTube, where it blew up to 1.8 million views. Pagel later posted about the experience on the Kansas Capitol Police Twitter account, writing, “It’s not a secret anymore. Words can’t even explain how much fun Officer Jackson and I had last night at the Sprint Center. Wow. A big shoutout and thank you to Kelly Clarkson for inviting us.”
You can watch Pagel and Jackson’s original viral performance in their squad car in the video below. Pagel told WIBW-TV that he came up with the karaoke idea when he was brainstorming ways to boost his organization’s social media presence. Pagel then praised Lamont’s voice, saying “I’ve seen other karaoke videos online but everybody else was lip syncing and thought we had a secret weapon that could actually sing so I recruited Lamont and he agreed to do it.”
I’m sure that The Musical Devotees readers can agree that Lamont does indeed have an excellent voice. The singing officer seems to excel at golden oldies, as in his first viral Carpool Karaoke session, he sang L.T.D.’s 1976 R&B tune “Love Ballad.” On a follow-up karaoke session, he sang the 1978 Grease hit “Summer Nights” with Melissa Brunner. Lamont then went even further back in the day for his hit performance onstage with Clarkson, singing the 1961 Ben E. King R&B classic “Stand by Me.”
