🧩 Movie Synopsis

Straw tells the story of Janiyah, a single mother struggling to care for her sick daughter. While trying to cash a check to buy lunch for her daughter, she is falsely accused of attempting to rob a bank. From there, Janiyah is drawn into a complex plot that forces her to make difficult choices to protect her daughter and herself. The film is a poignant reflection on how vulnerable people can be ignored or misunderstood by the system.

The film was shot in just four days in Atlanta, Georgia, while Taraji P. Henson was working on another project, the limited series Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist .

This is the next collaboration between Tyler Perry and Taraji P. Henson after the success of 2018’s Acrimony.
