However, Ronaldo wasn’t going to leave North America without getting his name on the scoresheet at least once.

And starting up front against Uzbekistan, he took just six minutes to open the scoring with a clinical finish.

Ronaldo ghosted away from a unit of defenders to get on the end of Joao Cancelo’s cross from the right side of the penalty area and knock the ball home with a first-time finish.

The striker wheeled away towards the bench in celebration of yet another World Cup goal for his nation, before he added a second with a tidy finish into the bottom corner in the 40th minute.

But scoring at a sixth finals dating back to 2006 is not the only piece of history the five-time Ballon d’Or winner made.

He has now surpassed Eusebio for the most goals scored by a Portugal player at the World Cup with 10.

Ronaldo is also the second oldest goalscorer at World Cup finals at 41 years and 138 days old, only behind Cameroon‘s Roger Milla who scored at 42 years and 39 days old.

That is also without mentioning how he has extended his record as Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer, now with 145 goals in 230 games.

His first goal at World Cup finals came in 2006 during a 2-0 win against Iran.

He scored his second World Cup goal against North Korea in 2010 in a 7-0 thrashing before adding his third in 2014 against Ghana to clinch a 2-1 win.

Ronaldo’s most prolific World Cup came in 2018 as he scored a hat-trick in a 3-3 draw with Spain before he netted the only goal in a 1-0 win over Morocco five days later.

2022 saw Ronaldo score against Ghana again in a 3-2 win, before he added a ninth World Cup goal at a sixth tournament with his strike against Uzbekistan.
