“WAIT… A BRIDGERTON STAR AND AN EMMERDALE LEGEND ARE HEADING INTO ITV’S MOST SCANDALOUS NEW DRAMA?” — AND THE STORY IS ALREADY MAKING VIEWERS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. 😳👇 A brand-new ITV series is generating serious buzz before it has even aired — and not just because it features a beloved actress from one of Netflix’s biggest period dramas alongside a familiar face adored by soap fans for nearly two decades.

‘Scandalous’ new ITV drama welcomes Bridgerton star and Emmerdale legend

ITV’s new drama, Adultery, is a provocative love story about two married parents whose families could be turned upside down.

A “provocative love story” featuring a former Bridgerton actress is set to arrive on screens later this year.

The six-part ITV series Adultery chronicles the tale of two married parents who meet, develop feelings, and whose families’ lives risk being “turned upside down” by their bond.

The duo initially cross paths while their teenage children, Ollie and Jess, are in a relationship, though as they “struggle with their undeniable desires,” Tom and Beth must wrestle with their guilt and the possible ramifications for their families.

ITV states that Adultery, produced by Poison Pen Studios and created by Danny Brocklehurst (Fool Me Once, Brassic), poses questions about class, grief, and the impact of social media as it takes viewers on a rollercoaster journey of passion, parenthood, and peril.

Shelley Conn is taking on the role of Hannah, the wife of Dominic Cooper’s character Tom, in the new series. Bridgerton enthusiasts will recognise the actress as Lady Mary Sharma, Kate and Edwina’s mother, in season two of the Netflix series, reports the Mirror.

Lady Sharma travelled from Bombay with her two daughters to stay with the great Lady Danbury, and she had a scheme in mind. Since Lady Mary relocated to India with her husband, she’d fallen out of touch with her former circle.

Nevertheless, with her husband deceased and two daughters of marriageable age, Mary departed for London to stay with Danbury, with the intention of presenting her girls to society.

Teasing her new role in Adultery, Shelley told Digital Spy: “I think what makes it even more original is that adultery has been featured in storytelling since marriage was invented, but it’s different because the way it’s structured,” she explained.

“You’ve got the couple who are having the affair, but in addition to that, they are also connected because their teenagers are also in a relationship with each other, so there’s lots of these overlapping relationships and it means it goes further and deeper.”

Emmerdale Debbie Dingle

The drama will also feature Becoming Elizabeth actress Romola Garai as Beth, alongside Deadwater Fell star Matthew McNulty portraying Beth’s husband Neil, Gavin and Stacey actor Andrew Knott as Dave, and The Crown’s James Murray as Paul.

Also appearing is former Emmerdale star Charley Webb as Leah Kirkman, Tom’s sister-in-law. The actress portrayed Debbie Dingle in the long-running ITV soap from 2002 to 2021, before appearing in the true crime series The Long Shadow.

The full synopsis for the new ITV drama reads: “Adultery introduces us to Tom’s 15-year-old daughter Jess, who has found love with schoolmate Ollie, and they can’t take their hands off one another, as love’s young dream becomes all-consuming.

“When Tom meets Ollie’s mum, Beth, in the most unexpected of circumstances, the two families’ lives are potentially turned upside down forever. Will Tom and Beth be able to control their desires, unlike their lovestruck teenagers?”

Adultery is set to air later in 2026 on ITV1 and stream on ITVX.
