Convicted killer Karmelo Anthony wept and appeared to confess to fatally stabbing Texas teen Austin Metcalf moments after the attack — tearfully telling police, “I’m not alleged. I did it,” according to newly released body-camera footage.
The dramatic video, released by Collin County on Friday as part of the evidence admitted during Anthony’s murder trial, shows the then-17-year-old being detained near the scene of the fatal stabbing at a high school track meet in Frisco.
As a school resource officer radios dispatch that he has the “alleged suspect” in custody, Anthony can be heard responding: “I’m not alleged. I did it.”
Anthony then appears to justify his actions, telling officers that Metcalf had put his hands on him after he warned him not to.
“I’m not alleged. I did it. He put his hands on me. I told him not to. He put his hands on me,” a tearful Anthony pleaded.
The footage shows Anthony visibly emotional as officers place him in handcuffs and escort him away from the scene.
“Am I going to be OK?” Anthony asked the arresting officer at one point.
The newly released video was among dozens of exhibits made public after Anthony was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Prosecutors said Anthony stabbed Metcalf, 17, with a folding knife during a confrontation after being asked to leave a tent reserved for another school’s athletes during a rain delay at a track meet.
Anthony claimed he acted in self-defense, but jurors rejected that argument and found him guilty earlier this month.
The county also released the surveillance video that jurors watched during Anthony’s murder trial, offering the public its first look at the moments immediately before and after the fatal stabbing.
A clip, recorded from a distant security camera overlooking the stadium, shows athletes gathered around the Memorial High School team tent during the track meet.
Because of the camera’s distance and grainy quality, the actual stabbing is not clearly visible.
Instead, the footage appears to capture a brief back-and-forth movement beneath the tent moments before Anthony suddenly emerges and runs from the area.
Prosecutors relied on the enhanced video during trial as they reconstructed the confrontation between Anthony and Metcalf.
Witnesses testified that the dispute erupted after Metcalf confronted Anthony for sitting beneath a tent reserved for Memorial High School athletes.
The videos were released alongside a trove of photographs that included graphic images of the fatal chest wound suffered by Metcalf, a blood-soaked coach’s jacket used in a desperate attempt to stem the bleeding, and the folding knife prosecutors identified as the murder weapon.
